De Dana Dan highly paltry, going to trashbin soon

There was, in fact, a time in Bollywood when the celluloid used to depict social tensions galore within the society. And these used to get accompanied by great compositions. Even several films, which can be cited till now, bear effect of an assortment of political and social movements.

Several Indian film directors were influenced by the Marxist tenets and the socialist experimentations with films of erstwhile Soviet Union. There were others too who were captivated by surrealism. It is a 20th century movement of artists and writers (developing out of dadaism) who used fantastic images and incongruous juxtapositions in order to represent unconscious thoughts and dreams. One of its brilliant exponents in the world of celluloid has been Jean Luc Godard and he had a profound influence on Indian film world too.

Just take a look at “Mother India” of Mehboob Khan, “Pakeezah” of Kamal Amrohi, “Madhumati” of Bimal Roy and you can find out what is called true elegance in a film.

What do we find now then? Most of the films in Bollywood are paltry and fail to sustain any impression on the viewer once he/she exits the theater. The new De Dana Dan film from the baron of laughathons, Priyadarshan is a good addition to the same list. Almost the whole film has been shot in a hotel. The film has a list of lots of bigwigs of the current film industry. Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Sunil Shetty, Sameera Reddy, Paresh Rawal….. you can find all of them in the film.

Truly speaking, De Dana Dan is inconsistent and uneven - energetic on occasion, sluggish at places. Also, the culmination is very similar to the director's earlier works, with the entire cast running pell-mell.

The film has many characters and it becomes almost impossible to single out any one actor. Though the actors have done well, the director has failed at this time.

Generally speaking, De Dana Danis is low in every aspect, targeted at the masses, delivers laughter aplenty but don’t dare to have any flavor of intellectualism here.
