India steadfast to extenuate climate change

Global warming and the saga of potential climate change in conjunction with their drastic effects have made India anxious to a large extent and all these are compelling it to unsheathe the sword. What is the planning of India then? It has come to the knowledge that India is on the verge of annunciating increased subsidies for solar-power generation for the reason that the country looks for upgrading production of renewable energy and depicting itself as dedicated to extenuate climate change.

What is more, India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is likely to release details of the latest solar-power policy in the next several weeks.

India steadfast to extenuate climate changeIn a recent interview, Dr. B. Bhargava, a director in the agency, made it clear that the plans will intensify the number of solar projects that can receive government support in a significant manner. Dr. Bhargava also made it clear that the hope is that the new policy will stimulate manufacturers of solar panels such as Moser Baer India Ltd. and Tata BP Solar India Ltd. to strengthen production, lessening per-unit costs and driving down the high price of solar power. It is to be noted that, at the moment, it is almost five times more expensive to generate solar power than oil-based power.

There is no doubt in it that India’s approaches or the endeavor regarding revision of its solar policies are far-reaching and comes ahead of a global climate-change conference at Copenhagen in December. The differences between developed and developing countries are part of the reason world leaders have dropped expectations for what's possible in Copenhagen. It has already been made clear that the purpose will be to establish a political roadmap for further negotiations to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012.

A number of developing countries including India are under pressure to portray greater commitments to controlling greenhouse-gas emissions. It is almost clear that climate change will be among the issues on the agenda when Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits the White House next week.
