Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) moves ahead with buoyancy
As per the recent annunciation of Indian government owned telecom operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) it has introduced pre-paid broadband services for its subscribers in Mumbai. It has also been confirmed by the company that the service has been launched in collaboration with transmission solutions firm Sterlite Technologies.
On the word of R S P Sinha, CMD MTNL, the company has brought to the fore an assortment of customer-friendly plans in post-paid broadband from time-to-time and pre-paid broadband will be a new customer friendly scheme which will render flexibility to customers so as to control their usage.
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited happens to be an Indian Government-owned telephone service provider in the cities of Mumbai, Thane, New Delhi, and Navi Mumbai in India and it did enjoy a monopoly until 2000, when the telecom sector was opened to other service providers. The government owned telecom operator renders fixed line telephones, cellular connection of both GSM — Dolphin(Postpaid) and Trump (prepaid) and WLL (CDMA) — Garuda-FW And Garuda-Mobile and internet services through dialup and DSL — Broadband internet TriBand. It, in recent times, has also started Games on demand, video on demand and IPTV services in India through its Broadband Internet service called Triband. Phone numbers belonging to MTNL start with the prefix 2 infixed line telephones and WLL & in GSM Mobile services start from 901x/ 9869/9969/9868/9968. MTNL also provides other services such as VPN, Internet Telephony- VOIP and leased lines through BSNL and VSNL.
MTNL was set up on 1st April, 1986 at the behest of the Government of India in order to promote the quality of telecom services, expand the telecom network, introduce new services and to raise revenue for telecom development needs of India's key metros, Delhi, the political capital and Mumbai, the business capital of India. In the past 23 years, the company has taken rapid strides to emerge as India's leading and one of Asia's largest telecom operating companies. Besides having a strong financial base, MTNL has achieved a customer base of 8.06 million as on 31st March 2009.
