Brit jailed for handgun possession to be freed over prison grub!
London, Nov 12 : A Brit businessman, who had been jailed for possessing a handgun, is to be freed, as he is unable to cope with the prison food.
Andrew Richardson, 49, who had admitted to possessing a gun and ammunition without a licence, told judges that the bangers and mash diet he was served in prison had played havoc with his fragile health.
And his barrister, Tom Allen, presented medical evidence to suggest a diet of sausage and mash and lack of exercise made Richardson, a consultant, of Wymondham, Norfolk, ill.
Richardson, who is being held at Hollesley Bay prison near Woodbridge, Suffolk, had in August needed a quadruple heart bypass.
His cholesterol level went up and he was told by doctors he should be on a healthy diet, but it wasnt forthcoming, the Sun quoted Richardsons dad David, 72, as saying.
But now he will be out in days after the Appeal Court slashed his three-year sentence to 16 months, with Justice Owen saying these wholly exceptional circumstances were enough to cut the sentence.
