Plastic Logic's e-book reader gets easier thanks to Barnes & Noble
Barnes & Noble, globally acclaimed and also the largest book retailer in the realm of United States, is all set to resell Plastic Logic's e-book reader, and this decision, as per trade analyst, will round out the bookseller's forthcoming products to compete with rival Amazon's Kindle line. It has also been learnt that Plastic Logic's QUE, set to debut Jan. 7 at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nev., will challenge Amazon's Kindle DX. Both e-readers have 10-inch electronic paper displays from E Ink and are built to appeal to professionals.
It was the last week when Barnes & Noble that it will begin shipping its own e-reader, known as the Nook, at the end of November. The device, as has been found, consists of a six-inch display and is of the same size and price as the standard version of Amazon's Kindle. Both devices cost $259.
What may be the outcome then? It is almost certain that on account of the Plastic Logic deal, B&N will be able to match both of Amazon's offerings. The agreement also marks an increase of the relationship between Plastic Logic and B&N, which agreed previously to run the QUE's online e-book store. Now Barnes & Noble has the subtle plan to present the QUE in its over 700 retail outlets along with the Nook. The company will also put up the QUE for sale through B&N's online store, which is expected to have more than 1 million e-books for sale once the Nook gets released. It is to be noted that Amazon, celebrated online-only retailer, has in the region of a third of the inventory of B&N.
Nevertheless, Plastic Logic has not elucidated till now how much the QUE will cost. What is the service of Amazon then? Amazon sells the Kindle DX for $489. It has to be stated that owing to their high price, e-readers generally fill a niche in the consumer and professional market. They urge typically to avid readers and travelers preferring a less weighty alternative for carrying books, magazines, newspapers and documents.
