However, owing to the significant development thus far, from the following month, mounting clientele of First Utility - a diminutive British provider of gas and electricity to 25,000 households - will be able to keep an eye on their utilities remotely from a cellphone or laptop.
It has been learnt that the basic job of PowerMeter is to amass vital and pertinent info on usage and to convey it to the utility company every half hour for electricity and once a day for gas. The utility company, subsequently, forwards it to Google, which then sends it to the customer. What shall be the benefits and how can the customers make the most of it? Well, all the householders have to do is to click on a graph to make sure electricity usage on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis. What may happen if someone is reluctant to do the same? He will have no way other than torturing himself through monitoring closely what he is spending each hour.It has also come to the knowledge, thanks to the aforesaid service, consumers will be able to get the smart meter and service free, in return for signing up for a two-year contract. Google, aside from this, has also signed a similar deal with Yello Strom, a German utility company, known for offering the PowerMeter to its 1.4 million customers.
Commenting on the entire approach, Yello Strom, Executive Director - Martin Vesper stated that as soon as people know precisely what is going on with their energy usage, they can make use of energy efficiently without sacrificing convenience.
