Aamir joins chorus against Australia attacks
After Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan refused an honorary doctorate from an Australian university, it is now superstar Aamir Khan’s turn to log his protest against the treatment meted out to Indian students in the Land Down Under.
In the latest posting on his blog, Amir expressed alarm at the recent attacks on Indians in Australia. “Most disturbing to hear about racist attacks on Indians living in Australia. Quite a shame. While this doesn't mean that all Australians are racists, the frequency and seriousness of such attacks, I think, calls for an extraordinary reaction from the Australian authorities,” he wrote.
The Ghajini actor was referring to a series of attack on desi students, especially 25-year-old Shravan Kumar who was stabbed with a screwdriver in Melbourne.Aamir also called upon Indians to treat foreigners the way they would like to be treated when abroad. “While we want action to be taken by authorities in Australia, we should remember all the various crimes against foreigners who visit India. Let us hope and pray that Shravan recovers soon,” he wrote.
The actor is part of the Indian government’s ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ campaign, which urges Indians to protect foreign visitors to the country.
Back from a two-month sabbatical, Aamir is set to begin the shooting of Three Idiots from June 15. The Rajkumar Hirani film also stars Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and Boman Irani. Loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone, Three Idiots is expected to be released in December.
In his blog, Aamir said he was busy playing board games like Settlers Of Catan, the Age Of Empires, Carrcassonne and Scotland Yard during his break. Aamir also asked fans for some suggestions on board games he should try his hand at.
