To strip or not to strip Rathore's police medal
Center has directed CBI to look into the case so as an appeal could be filed for a harsh sentence against Shambhu Pratap Singh Rathore, former DGP, Haryana.
Rathore, the then DGP of Haryana, molested Ruchika in 1990. Ruchika then committed suicide in the year 1993, fed up with the Indian legal system which failed to get hold of the DGP. In fact DGP Rathode, along with political support used his power to falsely booked Ruchika’s brother in 6 auto theft cases and threatened and harassed the family.
It is only after 19 years that the court sentenced P S Rathore for a mere 6 month’s imprisonment and 1000 rupees fine making a mockery of the whole system. Since the news has been hitting the headlines in every newspaper and TV channels, it seems the government has no other option but to ACT.1990 was not a year when the media was as powerful as it is today. Even now the Indian Government, the CBI in fact anyone in the government machinery act only when the issues gets highlighted in the media.
It is not new that the top government officials have been misusing law for their own benefits and to hide crimes that had committed.
So where the common man go?.. who can he complain to? Should he go to the media or the police?.. But is the media as clean as the police? This only lead to taking law in one’s own hand, unless the judicial system changes “one law for all” and laws strong enough not meant to be broken.
