It was believed that female hormone oestrogen protected younger women against heart disease, but result of the new studies contradict to those facts.

The study was carried on 12,116 Danish nurses aged between 45 to 64 years. The study began from 1993 for a period of 15 years. At the end of the study in 2008 the researcher found that of the 12,116 participants 580 were diagnosed with heart diseases, 138 suffered heart attacks, 73 were suffering from other heart related complications and 369 had angina.

The researchers found that nurses who admitted that their work pressure was high were at 50% higher risk of developing heart complications over next 15 years. But with good lifestyle and for non smokers this risk reduces to 35%.

Women who felt highly pressurised were at 2x the risk of heart diseases as compared with those who were not.
