Taking the 'ouch' out of vaccination
Vaccination is one of the ways to make sure that your child remains healthy. Vaccines protect one from diseases such as Hepatitis, flu, Polio, Rotavirus, Chicken Pox, Measles etc that can cause sickness or even death. Pain can be minimized by using special smaller needles, ask your doctor if you are not sure, however most of the doctors recommend it today.
Today multiple vaccines come combined into one single shot. Here are some suggestions that can make the whole vaccination process a less painful one.

Stay Calm and relaxed
This is for the parents or the guardian accompanying the child. Many a times the person accompanying the child becomes stressed out and nervous when the child is about to get the vaccine shot. They need to stay calm and relaxed. Remember the child can sense when you are nervous or upset.
If you cannot control your nerves try deep breathing.
Get your child entertained
If you are with an infant keep the child entertained before getting ready for the vaccine shot and immediately afterwards. Make faces try to pacify try out whatever trick that works. With a child of 3 years and over things may not be that difficult, all you may need to do is divert their attention, read story books etc.
Be with your child before and after the vaccine
Most probably your doctor will ask you to hold the child during the vaccination process. In case there is someone else, request the doctor and stay close to your child. Stroke your child during the process it will help him/her from getting upset.
Take your time
After the vaccination process don’t be in a hurry to leave the doctor’s office. Clam your child down and allow a few minutes before you leave the office. It is important that the child is not upset when you leave the office as you will have a tough job getting your child back into the doctor’s office the next time.
