Stay away from Chemical water purifiers: Study
A new study conducted by Healthy You Foundation has found that chemical water purifiers that are meant to purify water are actually not safe. What is more shocking is that all the chemical water purifiers available in the Indian markets fail to meet necessary safety standards.
For the study branded water purifies that most people prefer to buy were test and it was found that water purifiers which use chemical were the most unsafe. However the reverse osmosis system and the ultraviolet type purifiers showed good results.
According to the founder of Healthy You Foundation, Bejon Misra, when it comes to Public health and safety, India lacks strict standards and regulations. There are many water purifiers available in the markets and many manufactures claim they are the best. But many of them do not even disclose an adequate amount of information about their products.
Bejon Misra wants the Health Ministry in India to take some steps to ensure that manufactures reveal adequate information about their products which should be made mandatory.
The main disadvantage of chemical based purifiers is that it cannot remove dissolved solids. This would also mean that such purifiers fail when water contains dissolved solids or in areas with high hardness.
Interestingly packaged drinking waters need to satisfy the BIS standards, whereas there is no mechanism to check safety standards when it comes to portable water purification system.
