This may come as a surprise to you, the low fat snacks that are sold in supermarkets in Britain and that are termed ‘Healthy’ may actually not be. What is even shocking is that the healthy low fat snacks may contain 3 times the amount of sugar, found in chocolate ice cream.

Conventional products in fact are healthier as most low fat options have significantly higher amount of sugar. Consuming too much sugar increases risk of obesity which in turn increases cardiovascular complications.

Food Industries have been advised to reduce their dependent on sugar in many of the popular processors foods that are marked “Healthy”.

According to president of the Faculty of Public Health, Professor Alan Maryon-Davis “Sugar is cheap and food industry use a lot of it. The industries need to be pressurised to reduce the usage of sugar and produce food with low sugar content.”

The usage of saturated fats was reduced by the food industry. Saturated fats are known to be linked with heart diseases and obesity. In many cases by reduction of saturated fats the product lost texture and taste which is compensated by adding extra sugar.
