Can eating of Indian curry meal stave off dementia?
Alzheimer's disease or dementia, though it is quite recognized these days when compared with the past, is not familiar to many. Dementia is the progressive decline in cognitive function due to damage or disease in the body beyond what might be expected from normal aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD) and is the most common form of dementia. According to many, this is an incurable, degenerative, and terminal disease that was first described by German psychiatrist and neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer in 1906 and hence, the disease was named after him.
It is to be noted, throughout the world, lots of studies are being conducted to find out an ultimate solution or to put an end to this disease. Lots of techniques have already been either discerned or found out but they are proved to be inconsistent. It has been learnt that eating of Indian curry meal regularly can help prevent the onset of Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Well, this can be regarded as a mere conjecture although an Indian-born researcher confides it.
While speaking on this Prof Murali Doraiswamy of Duke University in America told members of the Royal College of Psychiatrists at their annual meeting in the city of Liverpool, curcumin plays an important role in curing this disease. What is curcumin? Well, curcumin is an ingredient in turmeric. It has the competence to prevent changes in the brain by blocking the spread of amyloid plaques - toxic protein deposits believed to play a key role in Alzheimer's.
It is to be noted that amyloid plaques, together with tangles of nerve fibres, are considered to contribute to the degradation of the wiring in brain cells, finally leading to symptoms of dementia - brain disorders that progressively degenerate and are harsh in the end.
He, for that reason, suggested eating of a curry meal once or twice a week can keep at bay the occurrence of Alzheimer's - a form of dementia.
