Honda planning to enter the small car segment in India
With some companies already in process of making it big by entering the small car segment in India, Honda is also planning to jazz the small-car market by 2009.
Production of Jazz, the most talked about compact car from Honda is expected to commence in Rajasthan and ready for launch likely before 2009. According to Honda officials it would take a year and a half to fully assemble the unit. Jazz is expected to compete with the already popular car, the Getz from Hundai and the Maruti Swift.
Having being launched in Europe, America, Japan, Malaysia, China, Thailand and Singapore and with a good response, there is no doubt it would do well in the Indian markets.
But that’s not it; Honda is planning to introduce the diesel version especially for the Indian consumers. With increasing cost of Petrol, Indian consumers are finding an alternative in diesel; moreover the performance of a diesel car has improved with new technology. It is harder for a driver to tell if the car he is driving is diesel or petrol.
President, CEO of Honda Siel Cars said“We are aware of the wide usage of diesel vehicles in India. We are studying the diesel 2.4-litre 100 bhp engine and also the 3.5-litre V6 diesel in some of the overseas markets. Though these engines can only be used in larger cars. It will still be some time before we introduce diesel cars in India”
Ready to grab a share in the Indian auto market, Honda is in process to increase its dealer network along with an enhanced portfolio. Honda has launched the 8th generation Accord recently and planning to get the hybrid civic running on the Indian roads pretty soon.
