Anxiety doubles the risk of diabetes in men

Men who are suffering from sleeping problems, anxiety and depression are more likely to develop the risk of acquiring type 2 diabetes a Swedish study has reveled. According to the study higher stress levels in men has been linked with increased risk of diabetes.
The study was conducted on 2127 men and 3100 women born between 1938 & 1957. Factors such as smoking, diabetes family history, body weight, social economic background and age were taken into consideration.
When the researches analyzed the data collected they found that worried men had higher risk of developing diabetes but the same condition did not seemed to work for women. The researches however were puzzled as to why stress linked with diabetes patterns were found only for men and not women. Researches believe that women are known to handle stress better than men could be the reason as to why women are spared.
Stress has been known to be a major cause of life threatening diseases. According to the director of research at Diabetes UK, Dr. Iain frame the results of the study are quite interesting and further research need to be done to find out as to why only men are prone to the diabetes risk.
Researches believe that stress and depression affects both men and women. Women have the tendency to reveal the symptoms of anxiety & depression men however are not able to do so and suppress such feelings by getting themselves involved in private activities, drugs and drinking.
