The violence that ignited on Friday between the police and the Gujjar caste in Rajasthan leaving 31 dead and several injured have severely hit the transportation medium. Thousands from the Gujjar community have blocked the railway route between Mumbai and Delhi.

The agitation still continues in spite of the army being called on Saturday to calm off the agitators. With the highways blocked by the Gujjar community many of the state transport buses have been cancelled.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said
“My appeal to the Gujjar community is that don’t allow the vested interests to play politics with dead bodies. The Government is willing for talks. The colonel rejected my invitation for talks and refused to send any emissary.”

Vasundhara Raje also added that stern action will be taken again those who involve in destructive activities.

Caste problem in India never seem to end. There was a time when people would want to get upgraded/considered into a higher caste, but now, thanks to the caste based polices and specially reservations in jobs , education (Special thanks to Mr. Arjun Singh) etc. for deprived classes, most lower caste want to be considered/downgrade to the Scheduled tribe category. ST or Scheduled tribe in India can qualify for nearly half of state college seats and government jobs.

It may sound funny that the Gujjar community rejected the offer of improved schools, roads, infrastructure, hospitals etc. in the Gujjar dominated area by the State government who were ready to spend 2.82 billion Indian Rupees for the same. Instead the Gujjar are keen getting the ST status.

It would be a hard time for the Rajasthan Government to come in terms with the Gujjar community, moreover with transportation blocked there is a huge loss for the Government as well as unexpected trouble for the passengers stranded.

And as usual Congress MP Sachin Pilot has not failed to make a statement demanding Raje resignation.
